Public Sector Equality Duty
The Equality Act 2010 requires schools to publish specific and measurable equality objectives. Our equality objectives are based on our analysis of data and other evidence.
Our equality objectives focus on those areas where we have agreed to take action to improve equality and tackle disadvantages. We will review annually the progress we are making to meet our equality objectives and amend our objectives when necessary.
1. Promoting Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural Development (SMSC) & British Values
- Objective: Continue to promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development (SMSC) through British Values and our Christian values; compassion, friendship, courage, perseverance, trust, and respect.
- Reason: To nurture a school ethos that reflects both Christian teachings and British values, promoting an inclusive and respectful environment.
- Actions:
- Regularly audit the SMSC curriculum and extracurricular activities, ensuring they reflect both Christian values and British Values.
- Incorporate Christian values into worship, class discussions, and school-wide activities.
- Use biblical stories and teachings to illustrate key values such as compassion, courage, and perseverance.
- Progress: Annual audits demonstrate that SMSC provision includes a strong emphasis on both Christian values and British Values, with positive feedback from pupils and parents.
2. Promoting Tolerance and Understanding of Other Faiths and Cultures
- Objective: Promote tolerance and understanding of other faiths and cultures, underpinned by the Christian values of respect and compassion.
- Reason: To ensure that pupils understand the value of diversity and inclusivity, fostering a respectful, compassionate attitude towards people from different backgrounds.
- Actions:
- Continue to implement the planned annual programme of visits and visitors from different faiths and cultures.
- Provide opportunities for pupils to reflect on Christian teachings about love, respect, and the dignity of all people.
- Encourage pupils to engage in projects that promote mutual understanding and cultural appreciation.
- Progress: Pupils experience at least one visit or guest speaker from a different faith each year. Student feedback shows increased understanding of diverse cultures and respect for different beliefs.
3. Improving Attendance for Pupils from Vulnerable Groups (Pupil Premium & SEN Support)
- Objective: Maintain and improve attendance figures for pupils from vulnerable groups, fostering a school community where all pupils are supported and encouraged, in line with Christian values of perseverance and trust.
- Reason: To address past attendance challenges and ensure vulnerable pupils are fully included in the school community.
- Actions:
- Continue to closely monitor attendance for Pupil Premium and SEN pupils, using RAG-rated letters and working with families and external agencies where necessary.
- Support families through regular communication, offering a trusting relationship between the school and home.
- Celebrate improvements in attendance, encouraging perseverance and commitment to learning.
- Progress: Attendance for these groups is now improving. Families report feeling more supported, and pupils show increased engagement.
4. Closing the Attainment Gap for Vulnerable Pupils
- Objective: Close the attainment gap between vulnerable pupils and other pupils, ensuring all children, especially those in disadvantaged or vulnerable groups, make progress aligned with the Christian values of friendship, perseverance, and courage.
- Reason: To provide the necessary support and interventions to help vulnerable pupils achieve their potential, reflecting the school’s commitment to inclusion.
- Actions:
- Regularly track the attainment of all pupils, ensuring that vulnerable pupils are identified early and given targeted intervention.
- Collaborate with external agencies to provide additional support where necessary and maintain a focus on overcoming barriers to learning.
- Use Christian principles to support pupils’ resilience, helping them persevere through academic challenges.
- Progress: Feedback from pupils and staff indicates that the interventions are helping pupils overcome barriers and achieve success.
Additional Christian Values Integration:
- Values in Daily Life: Embed Christian values into daily school life, ensuring that all pupils understand and are encouraged to practice compassion, friendship, courage, perseverance, trust, and respect. These values will be explicitly taught in PSHE lessons, worship, and through positive role models within the school.
- Church School Identity: As a Church School, the Christian ethos will guide our approach to equality and inclusion. We will emphasise that every pupil is valued equally, created in the image of God, and deserving of love, respect, and opportunity to flourish.
